Who We Are

Legally Learning, an education nonprofit with a national reach, believes every student deserves access to self-advocacy education that can change their lives. Through our K-12 curriculum, programs, and professional development, we empower all students to advocate for themselves and others.

Our Vision

At Legally Learning, we envision a world in which all students have the knowledge of legal rights, knowledge of self, communication skills, and leadership skills – the building blocks of self-advocacy--  to speak up for themselves and others, creating a more just and equitable society for all.

Our Beliefs

At the heart of Legally Learning's mission is a simple yet profound belief: every student deserves the tools and confidence to advocate for themselves. This belief is grounded in educational research which asserts that self-advocacy is a critical skill that enhances student achievement and personal development. Self advocacy encompasses four key components:

OUR ACTION PLAN

Through our action plan, we transport Legally Learning's vision into reality.

PHASE 1: Development and Distribution of Curriculum

Our first step is the continued development and refinement of our comprehensive, Common Core-aligned curriculum. The curriculum integrates legal education with self-advocacy training, ensuring it is relevant and engaging for students of all backgrounds.

Pilot Program: Through our Advisory Board and teacher fellows program, we get critical feedback based on the real experiences of educators in schools.

Accessibility: Ensuring these resources are freely available to schools is a cornerstone of our mission. By removing financial barriers, we make certain that all students, regardless of socioeconomic status, have access to this transformative education.

Phase 2: Professional Development and Training

Empowering teachers and school leaders to deliver our curriculum effectively is critical. We provide extensive professional development programs that equip educators with the knowledge and skills to foster self-advocacy in their students.

Professional Development Workshops: We offer workshops and seminars that delve into the intricacies of our curriculum, teaching strategies for educators of all disciplines to build reading, writing, and self-advoacy skills integrating building reading in an inclusive classroom environment.

Ongoing Support: Our support doesn’t end with initial training. We provide continuous professional development through webinars, online resources, and a community of practice where educators can share experiences and strategies.

Phase 3: Community and Stakeholder Engagement

Building a supportive community around our mission is essential. We actively engage with parents, community leaders, and policymakers to advocate for the importance of self-advocacy education.

Parental Involvement: By providing resources and workshops for parents, we help them understand the value of self-advocacy and support their children’s development at home.

Policy Advocacy: We work with policymakers to promote the inclusion of self-advocacy education in national and state education standards, ensuring long-term, systemic change.
